Cultivate Art Commons values diversity in its participants and community, encouraging applications from all qualified individuals. While recognizing that the identity of each person is fundamentally plural, multidimensional, changing and evolving, we strongly encourage applications from individuals who are: Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, and Inuit), Black, POC, racialized (including recent immigrants), 2SLGBTQQIPAA+, neurodivergent, disabled, living with chronic illness and/or chronic pain. Cultivate Art Commons is strongly committed to supporting a wide range of cultural identities and lived experiences, therefore we encourage applicants to self-identify in their application if they are comfortable doing so.

Call for Jurors

Each year, Cultivate Art Commons invites artists, arts educators, and arts administrators to serve as jurors for upcoming programming, including our Annual Call for Submissions, Annual Juried Exhibitions, Syphon, and Residency Programs. Jurors review applications, score them against Cultivate Art Commons’ Mandate and Evaluation Criteria, and then make recommendations to the Executive Director.

Cultivate Art Commons is committed to building equitable juries, and will strive, to the best of our ability, to ensure the composition of the jury represents the range of applications in the competition, as well as the gender, demographic, and cultural diversity of our community.

Potential jurors must have an interest in, understanding of, and appreciation for the diversity of the arts. They must be able to work collaboratively, and bring an open-mindedness and generosity of spirit to their assessments and the deliberations. Jurors must declare any conflicts of interest and be able to provide fair and objective opinions.

Cultivate Art Commons does not tolerate discrimination, harassment, or violence including but not limited to ableism, ageism, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, racism, and white supremacy. If a juror demonstrates any of these behaviours towards other jurors or applicants, they will immediately be asked to leave. All jurors must be willing to engage with one another in a respectful manner.

Jurors will be compensated for their time in accordance with the CARFAC Recommended Fee Schedule.

Join the Board of Directors

Cultivate Art Commons’ Board of Directors is a working Board. Directors are expected to attend monthly meetings, attend Cultivate Art Commons events, and serve a two-year term. Ideal candidates will help develop and implement strategies that will generate revenue, attract new supporters, expand our community connections, and build the artist-run centre’s profile in and beyond Katarokwi-Kingston.
