The Remix Residency
Queering Archives for Collective Liberation
The Remix Residency will run from August 1st—August 30th, 2026.
Five QTBIPOC artists are exploring how archives—personal, community-based, and/or institutional—can be tools for remembering, queering, reframing, and remixing the past to help envision and imagine liberatory futures. Centered in Katarokwi-Kingston, The Remix Resident Artists aim to critically engage with QTBIPOC archives and histories, challenge colonial narratives, and co-create knowledge rooted in resistance, memory, and collective care. It’s The Remix!
Some Questions We Consider:
What does it mean to co-create knowledge through art as racialized queer people? How do we challenge and disrupt colonial narratives by bringing our ancestors and their stories into contemporary dialogue? How can using archival materials in our art practice(s), rooted in memory and resistance, help us liberate our communities?

Toronto Trip!
August 7th-8th, 2026
Led by Alyssa Vernon (Residency Director), Jarena Lee (Residency Mentor), and Naomi Samuel (Residency Ambassador), Shanique, Kizzy, Sian and Noel went on an archival trip to Toronto! They visited the Wildseed Centre for the Arts, where they did a Sonic Archives workshop with Dr. Syrus Marcus Ware, toured The Arquives, and visited The Nia Centre for the Arts. This trip allowed the Remixers to cultivate their archival imaginations and develop their projects further through artistic exploration and collaborative inquiry!
